Good morning! There's a lot to cover this week, so we'll jump right in. Feel free to scroll past all of the words if you're looking for the menu. No judgment. We're all here for the bread.
How to Store Bread
We’ve had some questions about the best method of storing bread, and after about two minutes of looking to see what’s online, I think I understand why. Our dry climate makes us an outlier when it comes to storing bread. You may have to try a few methods to figure out what works best for your house and your bread preferences. Here’s what has worked for us:
If you’re looking to retain a hard crust and will be eating in a day or two, a paper bag works. If you’d like to retain the moisture and/or want to eat the bread over a week, a plastic or reusable bag works best. We have also used Bee’s Wrap (a plastic-free, reusable food wrap) and a bread box…both of those have worked as well. I’ll try to have both of those out this Saturday in case anyone wants to see them.
If you want to keep bread longer than a week (or if you’re just buying ahead), freezing bread is the best option. You can place it in a reusable or plastic bag and store in the freezer for up to three months. (If we’re being honest, I just had toast from a loaf we’ve had in the freezer since late November. It still made solid toast, so there’s some wiggle room there.) Some of our customers freeze sliced bread - then you can pull out a slice at a time.
Looking for Market Season Help
We’re getting ready for market season, and we know we’ll be a lot busier. We’re still sorting out the details, but if you have any interest in helping out (baking prep, packaging, market booth sales, etc.), let us know. We'll reach out once we have a better idea of what exactly we need, but we wanted to start getting the word out. Lafayette's new Farmers Market begins Sunday, May 4th.
CSA Shares Still Available
Cure Organic Farm is doing a final push for their CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture) Shares. They still have vegetable, fruit, and flower shares available. There's also a CSA card option that allows you to buy anything at the farm stand, which is a flexible way to support local agriculture. If you're interested, you can find more information here.
