Partnerships between chefs, founders and farmers support Colorado agriculture

The effort finds its foundation in the Colorado Grain Chain. Bouvier was one of the founding members of the organization, which started about the same time as she was launching Pastaficio. Jones Farms Organics, which is the first business in Colorado to receive Regenerative Organic Certification (ROC), also was an early member.

Today, Grain Chain members include 16 bakeries, 13 farms, 16 breweries and distilleries, and eight restaurants. As the organization grows—with increasingly more farmers cultivating organic and regenerative grains and food businesses sourcing grains from local farmers—it has become a powerful movement.

TEBO Properties  is looking to lease the former Lafayette Florist site at 600 South Public Road for commercial use and has it listed on their website. There isn't any other publicly available information on the site or any potential plans that we are currently aware of.

The southern part of that lot actually sits over some old mines and has what the state determines to be medium risk of "subsidence", which means there is a risk of the land settling if the mines below ever settles or caves in.

Sanitas Brewing Company is thrilled to announce the opening of its third location at 400 West South Boulder Rd, Suite 1650, Lafayette, CO. As currently envisioned, the development would create a new mixed-use development with an 8,000sf +/- retail/commercial building on the corner of Baseline and Carr, with residential townhomes and duplexes on the eastern portion of the site. The retail building will provide the necessary parking in an adjacent parking lot to the south of the building, with retail storefronts facing Baseline and addressing the corner. The parking lot would be screened from the existing residential neighborhood to the south of the alley.

Safeway, Albertsons stores in Colorado could be sold in merger

Nearly one hundred supermarket grocery stores in Colorado have been identified by Kroger to be sold if a proposed merger is approved.

Kroger has identified 89 Safeway grocery stores and two Albertsons that would be divested in Colorado.

This does include the Safeway in Erie on the northeast corner of the 287 and Arapahoe intersection.

Colorado Grain Chain announces Colorado Organic Grains Microgrant Program

The Colorado Grain Chain, a nonprofit organization that grows and connects a vibrant community-centered grain economy in the state, has announced the 2024 Colorado Organic Grains Microgrant Program. CGC will award six grants, at $5,000 each, to businesses in the middle phase of the organic grain supply chain, which falls after harvest and before retail. The application process runs through Sept. 27. Applications can be accessed at coloradograinchain.com/page/2024-microgrant-program. 

119th Street, north of State Highway 7 will be closed

Beginning as early as 6am Monday, July 8, crews will close 119th Street, north of State Highway 7, to motorists to install concrete pavement. 119th Street, north of SH 7, will be closed for approximately two weeks. Once this work and closure are complete, crews will then close 119th Street, south of SH 7, for approximately two weeks.

Young Farmers Dig Into Land

Friends Farm is not technically located on agricultural land. The two-acre vegetable operation is owned by Nyland Cohousing Community, a 42-house community established with the aim of creating connection and supporting sustainable ideals. A former member started the farm a decade ago but became disillusioned by the inability to make a profit. In 2023, Waves of Grain Food Coop leased the land to continue the organic farm in support of its mission to provide fresh and affordable produce to communities along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. 

Erie denies zoning for high density neighborhood due to resident concerns

Erie will not move forward with development of a property in the southwest corner of 111th Street and Arapahoe Road, with council members saying the area needed traffic and water drainage improvements before adding more residential units.
